Mining is an important factor in economic activities and growth in Serbia today, and at the beginning of this year, that industry participated with 2.6% in the GDP in the first quarter and 2.3% in the second quarter, said the minister of mining and energy of Serbia.
Mining is recording a higher growth rate than industrial production, because the industrial production from January to July 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, grew 2.7%, whereas mining grew more than 30%, which is a result of increased investments, especially in the exploitation and processing at the copper mine, stated the Ministry of Mining and Energy.
Serbia is rich with mineral resources, primarily copper, gold, silver, lead, zinc, borates and lithium. As specified, there are geological explorations in 178 fields in Serbia, of which 120 are metal ore fields, among others, copper, gold, lead, zinc, silver, two exploration fields of energy resources and 56 fields in which non-metallic raw materials are being explored.
